Odd State Referance Comment
 

Ok this is going to sound really odd - but was reading a Post from "johnnygray" and it jogged a memory of mine.

I was born and raised in Pennsylvania - since then have lived in Virginia - New York, and now in Georgia.

i have NEVER heard anyone other than someone from Pennsylvania refer to there state by the Initials.

I have heard plenty of Pennsylvanians refer to it as "P.A." - but have never heard anyone in New York call it "N.Y." or Georgia as "G.A."

Maybe it is overall name legnth - 4 syllables is long - but so is California - never hear "C.A."
Do North or South Dakotians call it N.D. or S. D.?

I am sure i am wrong - just an "Observation of a Doofus"

I'm from NJ and we say PA as well for penna...I think I've heard NJ said, but it's just a spill over from the "PA" bit, :p

We usually just say jerzy.

On the boards I say MO, but in person, it's Missouri.

Kay-Cee-MO just kinda rolls along, but isn't 100% accurate same county though -- close enough for most :p

I'm from Ohio, which is short enough to type.

I've seen (So)Cal, P.A., Mass, IL...

I spell it out cause we have a good handful of non-US members and I'm sure they don't memorize all our state abbreviations (heck I have to look them up sometimes).

i do find that in typing / written communications they are used..
but more from a verbal standpoint. people in PA actually say "P.A."

i have heard "Cal / Cali" and "Mass" but never "C.A." or "O.R."

Pennsylvania is actually five syllables.

I know we're talking about states, but EVERYONE calls Los Angeles, "LA" and it's only four syllables. :)

New Jersey people say "Jersey"
Californians say "Cali" or rarely even "CA"

But yes, we PAers, do actually say "PA". There's just no cute way to cut the word "Pennsylvania".
