Oem eoc? (automated engine off coasting)
 

I was reading a recent copy of Automotive Engineering International magazine, and caught something interesting. Much of the magazine was focused on the 2025 CAFE standards, and one column was about Start/Stop technology. Auto manufacturers are working on improving these systems to automatically stop the engine while coasting. According to the article, this should be good for a 15% reduction in fuel consumption.

I think some versions of the Peugeot diesels already do this, but only when speed drops below 20 km/h.

There are plenty of vehicles in Europe that do this already and even some in the US (only high end luxury vehicles). Hybrids have been doing it for the past decade plus. The EPA testing doesn't have the car sit in one position for long at all, so it doesn't show any benefit on the EPA numbers. This is one reason it hasn't come to the US faster.

This isn't for when the car is sitting in one position, or coasting to a stop... But when it is coasting at speed. I haven't heard of any non- hybrid production vehicle that does this in the states.
