I'm thinking I might drop by a gym and see if they have any worn-out threadmill belts, in my head that seemed like the perfect material to make the lower part of an air dam, and not have it break off on a speedbump or ramp..

Which Beetle?
The guys that were runing the red one said that they have to remove the air dam to get it onto their trailer—and that took 45 minutes each way. Those are 1 1/2" fender washers under Allen-head bolts, and it had Heim rod ends on the struts. Definitely not a coroplast and duct tape effort.

Interesting, there are a few splitters in evidence there too - mainly on the beetles of course, which probably need the downforce. It would be interesting to know why people did what they did with them, though...

Interesting.
Some of these look a lot like my original air dam on my F350.
Mine worked best when I had 3 inches clearance to grade, but it ground everytime I hit the brakes. Not big deal for Bonneville guys.
After aerohead's misadventures with road debris a guy with an aluminum or rigid plastic air dam might want to pre-run the course to FOD it.
BTW, conveyor belt is indestructible but a bear to fabricate.

Bonneville is awesome! Where else can you find a modern Japanese import with a 60 year old supercharged flathead!

I think the ultimate flathead Ford would be the french military flathead - Google Search. It's basically a 49-53 block with an early bellhousing. |
