Oil Pan Heater & Insulation
I'm thinking of installing an oil pan heater on my car. I had a 125W oil pan heater on a previous car and it didn't perform very well. There wasn't room to install it on the bottom of the pan, so I installed it on the side, and I did not insulate the heater or pan at all.
I'm thinking if I install a heater on my oil pan (preferably a 200W+ magnetic one), and insulate the oil pan all around the heater, that it will perform fairly well. I guess I'm just looking for ideas on how to best insulate the pan. Here's what my oil pan access looks like: https://imgur.com/a/yX2WI |
I'm thinking of using this magnetic heater.
It seems that there is a small gap between the magnet and the heating surface. Anybody know of a thermal paste that would work well between the heater and the oil pan? The stuff they use for computer CPUs is a bit too pricey. |
The stick on heaters are just about worthless.
The only heat paste worth using is the stuff for computers. |
