old fuel prices
interesting site. I have mentioned it here somewhere.
http://www.randomuseless.info/gasprice/gasprice.html when my car was new in 1987 at 35mpg (combined underestimate) fuel could be found for .79 cents 22 years later, still running, the past 3 years into the 40s unsurprising.. 122k miles now.. that would be a grand total of $2753.71 spent. At that rate, to spend $10k in fuel the car would be 79.2 years old, with 439,200 miles on the odemeter to have spent ten thousand in fuel, and the year would be 2066. As the site address is random useless info, I have decided to share mine as well. :) |
Gasbuddy is also nice for looking at more recent historical charts.
Gas Price Historical Price Charts - GasBuddy.com I check it weekly, eagerly awaiting the return of $4 (and higher) gas. |
I want another $4/gal price scare... I need to buy a HD vehicle for towing a race car around, higher gas = lower gas guzzler values :D

fuel prices
What I enjoy, are statistical portrayals of gas prices over the years, adjusted for inflation. What they fail to mention is that the rising fuel prices themselves are responsible for the inflation they're adjusting for.
