Old user, NEW CAR 2013 Subaru STi
Hey everybody,
i've been MIA from this forum for about a year, but i've still been waving the "ecomodding flag." I've finally saved up enough money to buy my dream car 2013 World Rally Blue Subaru STi. http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...e/IMAG1617.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...e/IMAG1619.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...e/IMAG1624.jpg However, it's time to retire my old ecomodding project "AeroSol. http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...r/IMAG0554.jpg I know the STi is not known for MPG, but im always up for a challenge. Future eco mods include Scangauge II and weight savings. EPA estimates are 17 city and 23 highway with 20mpg combined. Long as i can AVERAGE 22-23 COMBINED mpg...i'll be happy. I dont see many STi's on here, therefore, once i get a scanguage II, i plan on starting an "STI log" to document the effects of mpg based on the following: 1) base mpg (this will be really fun ;)) 2) folding in side mirrors 3) mpg in "intelligent vs Sport mode vs Sport# mode" 4) does the adjustable Center Diffrential have an impact on mpg? 5) anything else i can think of Hopefully this will be a useful reference for the tens of Sti owners out there wanting to get good MPG> Anywho, i just wanted to show the new whip :) |
I'd love to own an STi someday (or a Subaru in general), but I sure wish they were a bit more efficient.

HEY HEY HEY. There is nothing wrong with taking a dream car and maximizing performance (mpg)!
And being a standard, you can do a kill switch- mega mpg You can close off most of your openings if you want- big mpg (Although you lose the performance of a colder engine bay, you gain the aero benefits- to me this balance out, but utilizing a turbo for power, it may hurt your performance more than a NA vehicle) After market should be huge- easy to get the boy racer parts that actually work. Plus, lowered expectations yield higher performance by %. 39 mpg here is nothing for any Toyota, but for me it's 77% above EPA. You should be able to easily see highway mpg in the city, even having fun. |

What do you think was the biggest contributor to your gains? kill switch? it'll be interesting to see your mpg gains with the lower grill block installed. |

Lower grille block-2013/05/11; Swapping Single Piece Air Dam for New Two Piece-2013/06/01; Full Underbody-2013/06/05; I got off my butt and did the lower after I was pulled over for not having a front tag, OSP gave me a letter so I could get out of it for a while, but they said they have to crack down more. So, I "adjusted" my plate to stay in the center. I am not doing images yet because my plate number is on it, but it will be visible soon. Kill switch nets me 3-5, I am going with. It is WAY more useful in the warm air. I use it more sparingly, so if I can not coast a decent distance, I do not use it- I also speed carefully- 4 over in 45 mph or less, and 8 over in 55 mph or more, so my pulse and glide is rarely used, more so with hills- I am also very attentive of traffic, so if there are a lot of cars, or potential issues, I don't use it. In winter, the coast distances are considerably less. This current tank, is the nicest tank I have ever driven. I have only revved my engine at three or four Camaros or challengers, and only 100% throttle zero to 70 redlined once. It's amazing how easy 30 mpg was w/o a kill switch and having loud exhaust/fast accelerating, and how extremely difficult 40 mpg is with being very careful lol. I guess kill switch is most of it, but its in combination with the warm weather improving my coasts- and less fuel needed to get up to speed to get to other coasts. I also have spent less time on the highway lately, and 70 mph WRECKS my fuel economy. As Ford proved, she loves the 40-50 mph range. |
