Partial Bed Cover for Ford F-150 XLT for testing
Below is a pic of a partial bed cover for MPG baseline testing.
http://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6692cd3b.jpg My plan is to finish adding more structure underneath it for support then attaching a diffuser to kick the air up over my Apex trailer to get a baseline for trailer towing with a regular bed cover and a diffuser. I plan on doing this work about a week from now. |
I like it! I am excited to see what the numbers look like with the partial cover.

As pictured a diffuser Phil Knox helped me make for my 4 Runner for towing Apex. It was attached to the rails on the roof of the 4 Runner. It is made from the rear lift gate of a Toyota Highlander. At the bottom it is 8 inched narrower then the bed of the truck. At the top it is 74 inches off the ground. So in theory it should aim the air at the top of the trailer but is only about 2/3rds the width of the trailer. I may experiment with a piano hinge to allow the partial bed cover to lift up in the center. It would need side panels though which this lacks. I like the radius edges of the home made diffuser though. http://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7a14fe18.jpg |

Went to town today. At 55 mph 26 mpg. At 65 mph 24 mpg, and at 75 mph, 20 mpg. At home I installed two 2x2 cross ribs to support the center of bed cover. I placed them so they will be under the diffuser supports to give attachment points.
