Hey guys. I have a project ive ben wanting to do for a while. I found a picture online of a guy who did something similar with his fit. My question is how do I test how much can block withou effecting radiator flow? I want to block enough to actually get some gains but not go past the point of not being able to drive 75 with ac on a hundred degree day if need be. Its not quite spring yet so odds are by using tape to test i could probably block the whole thing and get away with it till summer. But if you guys have done the math or figured it out for yourselves i might save myself the headache.

buy a scangauge. Read the first ling in my signature. It allows you to see actual digital readings of 16 plus functions. Temps are some of them.

I have a scanguage and monitor engine temp. Whats the math i should be using for ambient temperature difrence?

Something like engine temp with block at 50 degree ambient air temperature. And figure out what i should be getting for engine temps with 100 degree ambient air temperature

There is no real math you can use. It depends on too many variables some of which are ambient air temp, driving speed, opening size, how much air coming through the opening actually goes through the radiator, engine temperature, engine load, rolling resistance, altitude, wind speed, and I'm sure more. Add to it that all of these variables are constantly changing and you can't say X opening is good for Y temperature.

The best way to go about it is really guess and adjust it as needed. I'd start with a ~6"x6" opening and if your fan comes on open it up a bit more. It'll be oversized for winter, but it'll still help out a good amount. You can adjust it for winter as well if you wish.
