Talking The Easter Egg

Hi everyone new here, looking forward to getting started. I've referenced your site many times since the purchase of my 98 Chevy Metro. I purchased it 2 summers back for a seasonal car for a job, after driving it through the summer and seeing the savings in comparison to my Nissan, I decided to make it my primary source of transportation.

Since the purchase of the car took it through a hot summer in OK, blew a had gasket due to some mechanical issues from initial purchase, hauled it back home and have rebuilt the motor from the bottom up. Since then achieving a life avg. of about 50 w/o 4th gear. So there is much in store and ahead in my echo offing adventures!

4th gear is over-rated!

Welcome to the site. 50 without 4th gear is pretty impressive, nicely done.

Thanks guys, looking forward to it. The next big change is to find another transmission, I'm hoping to find a donor car with a bad motor. From what I've seen out here I can typically pick one of those up for about the same as a used transmission. Wanting to find an older one for less weight.

If you're hunting for a new transmission, I'm sure you know about the final drive gearing between different years/models of this car. The most efficient "cruising" option (tallest final drive) is in the older Suzuki Swift 1.3 SOHC cars.

I've looked into and considered the the taller final drive of the 1.3, a bit concerned that in Utah I often have to climb and that I would find myself down shifting so often that it wouldn't be a benefit.
