Peel p50.. a modern version would be interesting..
the Peel p50, 100mpg made int he 60's and under 50cc.. perfect for comuting .. at lower speeds..
Id love a small car like this if it would do 40-45.. to do this safely it would need to be lower and more stable.. but it would be cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqf1yKxb9hI |
I always wondered if a normal sized person could get in there.

A Honda scooter with that size engine will still only do 30, and gets 100mpg. On the scooter I gain 4mph top speed in full tuck, with my chin almost on the handlebars.
If the modern P50 were twice as long and half as tall, I bet it would do pretty well. I plan some day to do it with a quad, to get the reverse gear. Edit: FYI, I'm about the same size as the guy in the video. The girl who owns the scooter gets the same top speed normally as I do at full effort. |
I saw this on Top Gear. He drove it into an elevator and around the office of the BBC. Very cool, but not really practical for highway travel.

You would have to take it inside or someone would pick it up and throw it in the back of their truck and steal it.

the VW 1l car seems to b the modern equivilent of this.. or as close to this. Surely this isnt ideal but in a urban setting it would be great for bad weather when a scooter or bike is just out of the question.. like bad rain and or really cold.
Basically a gokart with a shell.. the 50cc thing is quite interesting as in MN here if its under 50cc you dont need a licence or plates or any thing could be a real cost savings.. Even a velio (think thats wrong) 3 wheeled areo bike with a 50cc scooter engine would be cool.. and I bet it would do about 40. My little folding gas scooter has a 34cc motor and it will do 25-30 mph pretty well with me standing up. maybe ill start a project with that thing... I know you can get these little 50cc gas motors and clutch assemblies for about 100 bucks, and they even have electric start. |
Hello,
Another old "bubble" car is the BMW Isetta: http://images.wbur.org/photos/p-t/ti...2713cf5d-e.jpg http://www.diseno-art.com/images/bmw_isetta_open.jpg Here's the 4-seat Isetta: http://upload9.postimage.org/307768/...071407_003.jpg (above & below: four seat Isetta) http://upload9.postimage.org/307792/...071407_015.jpg And for reference, here's the Peel P50: http://upload9.postimage.org/307808/...071407_004.jpg This is purported to be a 2012 BMW Isetta: http://www.autofanblog.com/wp-conten...isetta_new.jpg Here's another new Isetta: http://media.diariomotor.com/imagenes/isetta3.jpg ...and another: the new BMW MINI iSetta |
I found the more modern version .. all the info i can find it "Santa Barbra Fun Car".. no other info..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u97l2XYboyQ Make it a hard top and id so drive one of these.. |
That top video is a fun one I have seen before.
I love the part where the motorcyclist has to look DOWN at the car. The Isetta was originally made by a company that made both refridgerators and scooters. If you look close, you can see the entire front of the car is really an old-fashioned fridge door! |
