Personal Best for the Beast
Today, coming home from college, I set a personal record. I spent the first hour of the trip drafting a truck (at a safe distance) doing approximately 65 mph. After losing the draft, I set the cruise control for 59 mph (a bit slower than I normally would) and just cruised. Working with the mild rolling hills, I was able to get 21.27 mpg on the first leg of the trip. With a slightly less efficient set of highways for the shorter second leg, I got 19.43 mpg.
Overall was 20.7 mpg. Getting over 21 mpg in this beast over a 330 mile run is outright amazing, considering it's rated to get 16mpg highway, and is generally pretty inefficient (way too much engine for the gearing). After pulling this off, I have to say, I love my Jeep that much more. I can't wait to see what I can pull off on the way back to school next weekend. |
Great job!

Nice for your car!
Think about getting a different one, my 90 day average is 43 MPG with a record tank of 50 MPG :) |
After college, I definitely plan to retire this thing from DD duty ASAP. However, as a college car, it's almost perfect. It's fun enough, will go pretty much anywhere (including in over a foot of snow), has plenty of space for stuff, and can carry the hitch mounted bike carrier when needed. Plus, if I need to, I can tow reasonably well with it.
I'm hoping to break 21 again, and maybe hit 22, on the way back up to Rochester this weekend. It'll be about 350 - 370 miles total on the way back, as I'll be taking a different route due to not having to go as far out of my way for a passenger. |
VERY VERY NICE!!!
Kinda like playing a video game. lol |
Have fun with what you got!

Nice work Fella!
I'm going the opposite way.. just done under my rated MPG UK for my car, but I did do a trackday! nice work getting that lump up past the 20's |
Thanks for the encouragement! I was honestly shocked when I filled it and realized how well I'd done. I didn't think it could break 20 at all, let alone break 21. That first tank also included about 20 miles of off-highway to run someone to the airport (probably about 15mpg), and a few minutes putting around Amsterdam, NY looking for a place to eat lunch. I also wasn't babying when merging, and had my foot buried up to about 60 coming out of the first tollbooths onto the Mass Pike.
