Pickup to car

Been driving 4 cylinder pickups(2 of them) since 1999 due to need of moving things around and occasional metal scrapping for extra money. Did pretty good on mileage about 29 to 29.5 mpg over life of the vehicles. Recently a drunk driver hit and runner totaled my truck and could not find one I wanted with manual for the time I had the rental for, only 7 days after declaration of total loss. I ended up getting a civic lx 2017 with manual. First time getting near 50 mpg in anything. First tank 49.2 mpg and only 15 dollars to fill from 1/4 tank. I’ll miss my truck but I’ll enjoy FINALLY getting actual good mpg.

Congrats and condolences. I'd be one sad man if my truck were irretrievably damaged. But cruising around in the Prius the rest of the time, I feel where you're coming from. That first thrifty fill up soothes a lot of grieving.

If you find you need some capacity for moving bulky stuff, your Civic will tow up to 500 kg. Take off about 100kg for the trailer's own weight and that's over 800 lbs capacity left. I dunno about you but that's enough lumber to keep me busy for an entire weekend.

Yep, my Fit's utility trailer beats the pants off a full size pickup. And I don't have to lug it around when I'm not hauling. You may someday thank that drunk. Just don't do it where he can hear.

Now is a good time to not be buying a truck or suv.
I hear gas in Texas is approaching $1 per gallon.
Anytime that happens everyone runs out and buys a huge gas guzzling land yacht.
Now is the time to be buying a fuel saver because no one wants them.

I bought my Nissan leaf in 2017 when gas prices hit like 6 or 7 year low.
I bought my 6.6mpg 454 powered suburban in 2015 when it was accepted that $3.50 a gallon was juat going to be the new norm, hell they practically paid me to take it.

You will like putting heavy things on and off a trailer that about 1 foot off the ground.
Have you seen the new trucks they make, the tail gate opens and sits about 3 feet off the ground, yeah that's cool if you have a forklift.

Sorry to hear about your loss!

A $600 aluminum trailer can make most cars capable of doing the majority of what pickups are used for.

Oh yeah?

I'd post one with a yard and a half of topsoil, but I don't have any pics. Two added bonuses there are that some pickups' beds aren't as long as the bucket loader is wide, and no pickup at all is easier to load or unload.

Last fill up $1.60 a gallon. 15 dollars for a full tank.

Still $2.40 here.
