Plastidip info?
 

I've been reading a lot about plastidip and it seems to look very good, but have a few questions. In some posts it's said you can peal it off? If so, how durable is it? Easily scratched? I'd like to spray some plexiglass with it and am curious about other's experience with plastidip holding up on exterior mods. How many coats do you need?

I painted the entire driver side of my Insight, one coat, in winter with a heater (~30 degrees. Still going strong. I plasti dipped my old Mustang rims, and those looked VERY good. Those had several coats, done in proper conditions. The roof sealant I used on my boattail is wearing off and coming off. The plasti dip on the side, is 100% going strong.

Plasti-dip is the way to go for anything you don't want permanent.

The only downside is the texture is a little rough, you can't have a glossy finish with it.

I used foil tape and plasti-dip to smooth my alloy wheels, and even after 50,000 miles it still held up.

Mustang Evolution has a TON of examples. I just get stuff done, doing it right, it does look good. Buying from the plastic dip site does offer glossy coats, infinite colors, and other options.

I would reference examples, but mobile right now.

for durability, you need at least 4 coats of plastidip.

the more coats you apply, the more durable.

I've have 6 coats of plastidip on my front bumper. I can see where rocks grazed my bumper, they did not penetrate the plastidip :)

Ive been looking into this too. My car seems a magnet for scratches and chips. One thought was to go with lizzard skin or bed liner. :thumbup:

I've sprayed wheels and brushed a bicycle frame. Brushing unthinned Plasti-dip didn't work out, but for spraying there's Plasti-dip S. It has more toners.

My intent is to undercoat my panel van with it. Someday when it goes un on a rotisserie and the media blasting and finish paint happen, it will just peel right off.

Cobb -- bedliner is heavy, Plasti-dip weighs almost nothing.

I love plasti-dip. I wonder, in small applications, do you think plati-dip will take a coast of spraypaint? It would mean you could use platidip for the reversibility and spraypaint for greater color possibility. Only in small spots, though, details. A larger surface i suspect could not come out correctly and evenly.
