Poor man's L/B indicator?
 

I was talking to my little brother last night about making some sort of device to monitor when the engine on the HX dropped into L/B. We were brainstorming when my little brother remembered me mentioning something about the 12v on the o2 sensor going to 0 and he said 'why not hook up an LED to the 12v and it will be on when it's not in L/B then turn off when you drop into L/B. Would this work? I have been told by people that you can watch it on UG but I would like more instantaneous feedback and not have to waste a slot on my UG screen.

Adding the LED may throw off the reading, so keep that in mind.

For the UG, I believe its the Bank 2 O2 sensor that drops to 0v when in lean burn, if you want to be able to see it in the meantime.

To prevent messing with/up the stock o2....

Just use a junkyard narrow band if all you care about is lean, not how lean.

Not sure on a hx, but on mine, its an on/switch between stoich and lean.

John deere etc dealers have a nut that fits cheaper than buying a bung online

For monitoring

Oh I'm not taking the risk of messing up the o2 sensor then. I'll just make room on the main screen of my UG to show it. Maybe later on I'll get a A/F gauge but for now, I'll just stick with UG.

I know there are cheep AFR gauges that are made to work for narrow band O2 sensors.

I am having trouble finding the voltage outputs for the hx (and my first gen insight) sensors. If they were similar, one could easily use this

With the narrow band sensors they are rather inconclusive, however if they could be made to work with our wide bands they could be uber helpful!


Lol or you can just go buy a wide band O2 from innovative Motor sports like I have on my 91 civic. (However, nullifies the whole cost effective idea.)

Wait, so I just enabled the O2 bank 2 sensor on my UG and I noticed my Corolla will drop down to 0.150, does that mean the Corolla is capable of leaning out as well at low speed...?

Anyway, I noticed the civic, when cruising around 55mph and light load will drop to 0.035-0.050 which isn't lean burn but meh... It seems extremely hard to get it to drop into L/B... I'm guessing it's the really long time it hasn't been serviced is the reason it won't. I'm hoping that once I get the timing belt job done, new spark plugs/wires/oil it will help it a lot.
