Porsche introduces the Mission E concept for a full electric sportscar

Porsche joins the fun by showing their 600+ hp full electric sports car concept at the IAA in Frankfurt, according to their own website.

... the first 800-volt drive system. Key specification data of this fascinating sports car: four doors and four single seats, over 600 hp (440 kW) system power and over 500 km driving range. All-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, zero to 100 km/h acceleration in under 3.5 seconds and a charging time of around 15 minutes to reach an 80 per cent charge of electrical energy. Instruments are intuitively operated by eye-tracking and gesture control, some even via holograms – highly oriented toward the driver by automatically adjusting the displays to the driver's position.

Tesla take note...!
Game on :)

15 mins charge time? I can see the street lights dimming now.

RedDevil 09-15-2015 07:05 AM

That is what the 800 Volt is for, the higher the voltage the more power you can deliver with the same amps. Otherwise the charge cable gets too thick to handle.

Two hours of driving fast on the Autobahn, then a 15 minute charging break, then 2 hours of hard driving again gets you from Hamburg to München in one afternoon. You can't do that much faster in any other car. Even Tesla cannot match this.

It's gonna need Mercedes shape-shifting wheels to lower drag at speed.

The rear doors are suicidal?

The BMW i3 uses suicide doors too. I'll probably be picking up a used i3 in 2-3 years when the leased vehicles start coming back.

The Porche looks nice, but where is the price tag? I'm guessing it doesn't look too nice, so they didn't want to display it. I would be surprised if this even makes it into production.

Concept cars are priceless ;)

This car is not about affordability. If it ever comes to market it aims for the group of buyers that would be put off if it were affordable.

This car shows that electric cars have reached the point where you can drive them all day, any way you want, without compromise. Save a quarter hour now and then.

Fifteen minutes is only a drink and a pack of chips longer than typical gasoline refill times.

Piotrsko 09-16-2015 10:58 AM

Put it in my podunk dealers showroom in more than just white and I'll think about buying one.

Until then...........

Closest I'll come to driving it is if they add it to the next version of Gran Tourismo, but it's pretty awesome looking.

Needs wheel covers!

whatmaycome14 09-16-2015 12:13 PM

I wouldn't get one, but I love the concept! :)

Xist 09-18-2015 12:19 PM

Has Porsche ever sold an affordable car? :)

Piotrsko 09-20-2015 02:46 PM

If you have to ask....

Actually their version of the ty 3 squareback was quite cheap.

RedDevil 12-04-2015 05:52 PM

They are going to do it for real!

Porsche Mission E Electric Sports Car Headed for Production » AutoGuide.com News

To prepare for Mission E production, Porsche will spend roughly 700 million euros at its Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant to prepare it. The brand will build a new paint shop and a new assembly plant while the existing engine factory will be expanded to handle the production of the electric motors.

“With today’s decision, Porsche is driving flat out with no speed restrictions into the automotive and industrial future,” said Uwe Hück, Chairman of the Central Works Council and Deputy Chairman of the Porsche AG Supervisory Board.

A timeline for when production will start was not announced, but most expect the Mission E to come to fruition around 2020.
Gotta keep my Insight for another 5 years and tend it well, otherwise I may have too add too much cash on the swap...
Hah, I'll make do with a model S :)

[citation needed]

Which one was that?

Piotrsko 12-06-2015 02:15 PM

I believe it was a type 411. Different trim, 4 headlights, Porsche style motor 5 lug rims.....

freebeard 12-06-2015 05:14 PM

VW badged. The 914 was the only Porsche to run thr Type IV engine. IIRC they were badged Porshe/VW in Europe.
