I just bought a two-axis pot from DigiKey for $5.74. What's so special about yours?

the price is better than most for a whole pot box, but I'm going homemade too (hall effect rig on one and a repurposed throttle position sensor on another).

...go electronic and use the hall-effect output to drive power FETs (acting as resistor).

works for low power, but in high power they should be either on or off with minimal time spent inbetween, cuz a lot of heat will be made otherwise.

I'm just finding out more about these -- I've heard that the Hall effect units are temperature sensitive?

perhaps the hall effect is, but it can be compensated for with some slop in the software throttle map, or with a thermistor/other circuitry if that isn't an option for you.

Also it *should* be more reliable since it doesn't rely on physical electrical contact like the wiper on a potentiometer does. But mine is off a $20 used scooter so I'm not real concerned about that :)

I was referring to the FET as having to be either on or off, in high power apps, just for clarification.

I did just realize that if you are converting a car, that you should think about just keeping the throttle body with the gas pedal and cable and throttle position sensor intact and just use that. The TPS I got from coyote (mid 90s metro?) is about 6k and should work nicely in many applications, and have all the travel and cable bracket issues sorted out already.
