Any ideas on good economy car that could be built under new kit car law?

New law paves way for more replica vintage cars

So most are focused on Cobras, and 32 Fords but this law could have many other possibilities. So it doesn't need all of the safety stuff, but it does need a current EPA certified motor.

So what cool old aero body would go with what current drive train?

Maybe a 1966 Ford GT40 (which they already remake) with a Prius hybrid mid mounted driving the rear wheels. The purist collectors already hat this new law LOL!

Tatra T87/T97.

Considering that it was rumored that Ferdinand Porsche borrowed from the Tatra to design the Beetle, I think a modern Porsche flat-six would be perfect to power it.

A GT40 that sounds like a Prius would be more than just a little sad!

Delete the silly duck tail spoiler thingy and all of the forward facing scoops, then add an ecoboost engine of some sort, either 4 cylinders or 3.

I guess my pic was of the newer remake of the Ford GT (although not the very latest) I read now where it needs to be at least 25 years old, so the one Jed posted above would be right.

Elio could use this to build at least 350 cars. I really believe they are going the 3 wheel route to try and skirt all the other automotive saftey rules and testing. 350 would be a big improvement over what they have so far.
I also wonder if the rules will allow a current EPA certified motorcycle or tractor motor like the Kubota turbo diesel, or a Honda parallel twin, or the new Can-Am parallel twin. That would really make some cool stuff possible.

Lotus Europa with turbocharged Honda Insight drivetrain: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Europa Notice the curb weight - 1,320 to 1,570 lb - is a good 300-500 lbs less than the Insight, which is about the lightest production car of this century. Replace the fiberglass with carbon fiber, make use of titanium for structural elements, and other modern lightweight materials where possible.

What do insurance companies think about the new kit car law? With fewer of the modern safety features, you may find the insurance rates for the cars are ridiculously high.
