Strangely, I don't fear it.

I recently learned that frozen embryos have no known shelf life. Seems to me if humanity ever leaves this solar system, it will require embryos and artificial parents (not to mention an artificial womb).

We already have in vitro fertilization. Genetic selection already exists, to an extent. Genetic engineering is coming soon. My children will likely be the last "natural" generation.

That's not to say that there's no problems. The biggest problems we will (now) face concern ethical use of these technologies. It will make global warming seem like a silly joke as far as problems go.

IIRC it was backstory in E. M. Forester's 1909 short story The_Machine_Stops.

Artificial womb is part of the progression. Womb is fundamental, but the short 2nd is mom and dad. Once that can be replicated artificially in a useful way, things get very interesting.

Embryos have no known expiration date, meaning the time it takes to traverse the galaxy becomes somewhat trivial.

Embryos haven't expired in the time we have been storing them, under a hundred years.
