I say the solution is to not use an EV on long trips. Everyone I know has an ICE vehicle, so plenty to temporarily trade with. My family has more than 1 vehicle anyhow, so one of them can remain an ICE.

A good compromise is a PHEV.

i know this is old but what if you used one of those Toyota highlander electric motors?

( REAR differential electric motors?) it's 67 HP and 96 ft-torque
