Preventative methods for windscreen misting?
 

I want to get to a point where in the winter I don't have to faff about waiting for the windscreen to demist in the car in the morning.

I was thinking about bulk buying Silica Gel Packets and leaving them on the dashboard, or getting a dehumidifier, but I was wondering if anyone had any successful methods that fixed the issue for them?

I put a small electric heater in my car and power it up 30 minutes to 1 hour before I leave.

I've bought some big dehumidifier bags to see if they're effective, but that seems like a decent idea. Is yours battery powered or does it need to be plugged into the car?

Silica gel cat litter (usually blue colored) is the same stuff used in those little packets as a desiccant. I bought a bag to solve that problem in the Prius, but it turned out my fogging issue was the result of the windscreen not being attached and water getting in. I attached the windscreen and solved another water leak and that solved my issue. Never did get around to filling tube socks with cat litter and seeing if it would help, but it's a cheap thing to try.

Other than that, I'd be tempted to install a block heater so the car warms up quickly and has hot air to clear the windshield.

As an aside, silica gel can be reused by heating it in the oven.

Been using a sock filled with silica gel cat litter ever since jakobnev recommended it so many years ago.

I heat it for 3-5 min in the microwave @50% power, wait for it to steam off its moisture and cool down, then throw it back into the car.
I don't remember the exact numbers now, but i weighed the sock before and after heating, and it appears to capture 30-50 grams of water.

I put on my heater and open up the window a bit, when the fogging is gone I turn it of,let the window sit open for most of the heat to leave, Than I close it.
