The Yaris hybrid is on my shortlist to replace Hägar.

While the Prius C is based off a Yaris, isn't the regular Prius based off a Toyota Corrola platform, same as the Toyota Matrix, part of why it was easy to build the Prius V, a car that looks a lot like a Matrix.
Of course the first generation Prius was based off the Toyota Ecco and that line was named Yaris if I'm not mistaken, so really the Prius is going back to it's short lived roots of being based off of a small car.

I agree with the end comment on the blog about how it will also most likely be my next car as well, in 10 years when I can pick one up cheap, that is if I still feel like owning a gasoline car.

You're buying less stuff if you go with just the regular Yaris. Maintenance of a hybrid system requires more manufacture and energy expenditure compared to just driving smart in a small gasser.

Consumer Reports was not impressed, MPG be damned. I like that they are trying to push for smaller car segments, but until they can match the fun + frugality of my old cars, I'm holding out.

Actually, the city numbers are 52 mpg versus the 40-something city numbers the Metro got. And in a car that has much more interior space and power.

The Prius may share something with the Corolla, but the chassis and legroom feel much different. The Prius C shares more with the Yaris than the 3rd gen shares with the Corolla, and even then, it's stretched out versus the previous Yaris it was based on.

Still an expensive car for the utility, but a much more realistic proposition for most of us than a bigger hybrid.
