XFI style cam for ford festiva

Well after having fixed up over 20 geo metros, I finally branched out and got my first ford festiva.

Mike at 3 tech, where i would get my xfi style cams to convert plane jane geo metros into clone xfi's has graciously offered to investigate the possibility of making an xfi style cam for ford festivas! how cool would that be?

What he needs for this project to progress is either a stock festiva camshaft to look at, or pictures and some measurements of the lobes. the measurements needed would be the base circle diameter and the lift hight (lobe hight minus base circle diameter)

I am waiting on posting approval at fordfestiva.com to get some pics and measurements, from those guys, but thought someone on here might have a festiva cam lying around, or at least be excited to learn about the project.

rest assured within a few weeks I will be ventureing off to the big city to hit the u pull it yard and get parts for a 5 speed swap, and I will get the test cam then, but if someone has one allready it would be cool to send some pics off to 3 tech and move things along that much faster

I would talk to my friend and custom cam grinder, Dema Elgin, in Santa Rosa, CA. Be sure to tell him about the planned 5spd conversion, and your anticipated driving habits.

I am confident Dema could regrind a stock Festiva cam into a fuel economy grind with a 5spd in mind, for you.

You guys still on here, and did you have any luck grinding a camshaft for the Festiva into an XFI config?
I'd be real interested in getting mine re-done if you had good results since it's about time for me to change out the water pump (and consequentially the timing belt). This would be a perfect time for me to do a valve job and replace the cam shaft, too

Mike at 3tech is a cam grinder by trade, I ran one of his economy cams and advanced gears for many years. I highly recommend him and anything that he is willing to do. I am playing with GM ecotec engines now, I may have to see if he has any plans for this engine. They have way more power than I need, maybe there is some more economy to be had.

U think he'll still be able to do one for me? What else did u use for that? Just the cam and a advanced gear? Like an adjustable cam sprocket u mean? How much would something like this cost? Thanks in advanced man im really interested!

I would e-mail and ask.
He was into Suzuki stuff, I can not speak for his interests or time.
He has great products if they fit your need, they did mine at the time.

I wanted to build an Xfi and Mike's cam and gear kit was a little better. The factory Xfi had 6 degrees advance built in over the stock cam and Mike gave us the choice of advance. He recommended the 10 degree gear and I was very pleased. I had lots of low end and since I went with the taller gears in a heavy car it worked great. I had many tanks in the low 50s. I ran this engine in a couple different Metros over 6 or so years. I put the engine in another Metro and sold it to a friend, as far as I know he still has it.
