Prosecuting Attorney!

1 Attachment(s)
Remember a year ago, when I put that HUGE airdam on Rex? Well he gained the nickname The Judge cause the piece of coroplast I used to make it was a sign to re-elect a judge and it said JUDGE in big blue letters across the bottom.

Well, introducting Rex, the prosecuting attorney!!!

...did I read upside down "proctologist attorney' (he,he)?

I think you should have turned it upside-up. NO ONE would come near your car to mess with you.

Well, I plan on painting it, and with the letters upside-down they will be less noticeable if they show through the paint. But, nonetheless, an egg-salad idea :D

Cereal-ly.

Mmmmm Prosecuting Attorney-O's

Today I was thinking, would this be the best thing to do, or would it be better to just block off the holes in my front bumper, leaving it kindof bullet-shaped, instead of a big rectangle pushing into the wind? The only reason I doubt it is because that would push a lot of air under the car.

Here's a photo of my uncovered bumper for reference:

From the other thread you just made that asks basically the same question:

The winner of both of this year's AMEC Fuel economy run has one, so as far as I'm concerned you should make your car look as much like his as possible (See AMEC threads). $10 worth of aluminum stock from a home improvement place will build you the support you need to turn that piece of coroplast into a cow catcher.

k.civic.f4i 12-04-2009 08:07 AM

what did you use to secure it onto the bumper? looks pretty tightly held on there.

Sean T. 12-04-2009 09:02 AM

Screws.

Time for better pictures!

It does stick out a bit on the far sides, but I think it's ok cause my wheels stick out anyways.

Hey! You should just glass the shape, and add a kick out at the bottom for a "lip spoiler"... it would be mostly just there to keep the shape stiff, but might do something to aero, as minute of an effect as it could have.

Either way, might as well just cover the thing if you're going to keep making air dams for it. You can glass that shape and make it removable easily with clips or screws.

BamZipPow 12-06-2009 02:52 AM

You gonna put a lower pan on the air dam? ;)

Sean T. 12-06-2009 11:49 AM

I've never used 'glass in my life, and I don't think my Dad has either... so that's probably not an option, plus unless it's gonna make a HUGE difference I'd rather not spend any money on mods.

I plan on putting a belly pan on some areas, including under the engine compartment, so I'll probably extend it out to the air dam. Not sure yet. I need to find the time to get the car up on the hoist to get all that done easily. I'd like to put a shield under the rear bumper too, to reduce the "parachute effect"

Christ 12-06-2009 11:54 AM

I can appreciate that.. the extent of money you'd need to spend with glass is resin. I'm sure you can find a fleece blanket on CL somewhere free?

If you're going to mess w/ the parachute effect, don't cut holes in your bumper. I don't approve. :P

Sean T. 12-06-2009 12:20 PM

Yeah, me either. No holes cut in my bumper.

The way my car is designed, that really wouldn't do anything as cutting holes in the plastic would just reveal the foam core. My rear bumper cover is pretty snug on the actual bumper IIRC, the actual bumper hangs down pretty low.

EngineeringStudent 12-06-2009 12:28 PM

your new pictures almost look like the nascar taurus. nice work! what kind of gains have you seen?

Sean T. 12-06-2009 01:11 PM

Haven't actually driven it more than once since I put it on, LOL.

Right now I'm having a lot of engine trouble and my MPGs aren't predictable at all. So it might be a while before I can tell if this is helping or not :(

Sean T. 12-23-2009 07:09 PM

Got Rex back and he's just about problem-free.

Did some quick A-B-A testing (not very official) but with the air dam on, I coasted a couple houses farther than without it on. I would get up to 40mph and then at a certain road sign, turn off cruise control.
