Pulse & Glide on Hills

OKay i have a question concerning engine-ON pulse & glide on an automatic car going up and down small hills on a freeway....

should i pulse up the hill.. then glide down with my foot off the gas

or should i pulse down the hill (use the momentum + the added accelerator speed) and then glide up the next hill

these are small ups and downs on a freeway

any advice?

Isn't that just the same thing backwards?

I mean you're going to have to go up and down hills. So if you pulse up and glide down, you're going to have to pulse again which ever way continues to make you move forward.

Give it some gas down the hill to get up to your max. speed, then glide down to your min. speed. Glide up the hill if you can, but don't lose too much momentum -- pulse when you need to.

garys_1k That's the way I doosit.

How can you pulse uphill with an AT and not have it kick down a gear, wasting fuel? I slog up hills in ATs very lightly on the throttle, trying to prevent kickdown into passing gear.

Once I crest the hill, I P&G, but the glide is in neutral, not in gear, unless I need to scrub off speed with DFCO.

I'm not sure what you mean by "small" hills, but that sounds like my terrain. I find I often do better without pulse and glide. I watch the instant fuel economy and try to maximize it with gentle throttle control...gain a little speed going downhill, lose a little going up.
