Pushing it too far

I saw him do that several times. At first i thought that he had starter problems, but then it dawned on me! (Maybe it's one of us, i distinctly remember a guy with a blue Scoda from Sweden.) |
Only slightly dangerous... Geez.

That man needs a Flintstone underbody mod ;)

Good thread title :D
I don't think I've ever pushed a car while in traffic, though I admit to doing it regularly at the beginning of a drive (to get it rolling out of the slightly down hill driveway). |
needs drop down locomotion pedals so it is less obvious.
edit, might make a nice "built in" bump starter too, if you can retract the pedals quickly. Attached to some bike chain, some light return springs, two holes in the firewall and a couple freewheel sprockets on an axle? |
Actually, this might be one situation where human->generator->battery/motor->wheels series could be useful. Much easier pedal setup, the generator can be bi-directional for even easier pedal mechanics, and you can top off your battery while stopped, and use a 12v motor for low speed maneuvers with or without the pedals (including reverse). +1 with trolling battery upgrade. It won't be as efficient as mechanical, but the peak exertion should generally be much less if you recharge while stopped.

I love it. EOP FTW!
|
I've done that on a few special back roads where there literally is only me there plus maybe one person once a month, if I get "hung up" before the last stretch of hill I do get out and push. The backroad although .2 mile further than the main drag allows me to coast (EOC) most of the way home wheras the main drag is a steep hill ending in a stop :(

...when walking (well, actually pushing) is faster than driving!
|
sorry, more brain dump, was driving the civic and could easily see using the gas and clutch pedals connected via cables (and a spring loaded dog clutch thingie) to an AC generator. Yah you might get some more wear on pivots and etc, but too easy to do. Might be useful if you are using a supercap instead of a battery too ;) There should probably be a dog clutch on the axle too instead of a freewheel which could wear out. Then you could have low speed regen also if you are feeling ambitious.
