questions about 4 stroke generators
I am look to buy a small 1kw-2kw generator and have some questions. 1st has any one converted a 4 stork generator to hydrogen? (I am going to be useing at a few times outdoors and do not like to use gas) is this possible?
thanks, Jacob |
I've seen it done, get a propane carburator and richen it till it runs right off your tank of compressed hydrogen.

thanks!
one more question are hydrogen convversion are the same as propane and natural gas? if is it safe to do? |
I don't know too much about hydrogen conversions specifically, but I imagine that as long as you can move the correct volume of fuel gas, be it hydrogen, propane, butane, or even gas fumes, it is the same. The main differences I can think of are that hydrogen has a much lower activation energy than the other gasses, meaning that it will ignite more easily if you have a leak. Also on the positive side it will have NO emissions other than H2O.
The reaction is H2 + O2 ---> H2O as you can see, there are no products other than water. Sweet! |

The draw back is that hydrogen is it's expensive because the stuff you can buy is hydrogen that has been separated out from natural gas, not made by splitting water, it takes such a large amount of energy to split water that it is cheaper to brake appart the natural gas, so it might end up being the most expensive fuel you can find.
Also you also should not use it indoors as it's still using up large volumes of oxygen from the air. |
