rain gutter

Do you think it is worth the time to remove this rain gutter thing from the roof of my car? I don't think water will get into my jeep without it and paint isn't an issue.

No but your pants will get wet from the drips and snow falling Inside. I HATE my gutterless vehicles for that reason.
|
If you are going to chop the top and round the corners of the doors it's mandatory.
If you're just curious use duct tape and do some A-B-A testing. The lengthways trough isn't the problem, just the dog-leg inward. |
The rain gutter holds your roof on. Removing it is not a simple task.

It can be done.
Saw-z-All 6-8" at a time and weld 'er up. |

I am no expert, but my opinion is removing gutter running from front to back will have no effect as it does not protrude high enough. As freebeard said, cover with duckt tape, fill with putty, white cement, silicone, or cover it in another manner and watch for results.
But, in my eyes, you risk considerable money for negligible gain in Cd |
It's already not an aerodynamic vehicle at all, so even a slight improvement may be too subtle if you ever notice it.
|
Well those are all good reasons why I shouldn't take it off. If I ever get another parts car I'll take off the rain gutter on it and see how well water stays out and if it holds the roof together.
I'm sure the effects on mpg are minimal but I think I would still do it (after testing on a parts car) because it would look nicer. A 0.05 boost in mpg from that would be a bonus. |
