Someone with a carport that is not attached to the building in which they live. No outlets at the carport, and stringing an extension cord down 3 stories and across 100 feet is not very practical...

This is what I do.
I understand it isn't appropriate for most.

My dad engineered a pull string to turn the light on at the top of the stairs while at the bottom of the stairs. 130ft of extension is a solvable problem, and done right, lasts decades (like my dad's pull string light switch). Suboptimal, yes, but doable, yes.

There are political considerations as well. They live in a condo with an HOA, after all.
But I fear we're getting off topic...

Mom's neighbor keeps turning off her front faucet, so my timer and sprinklers do nothing.
I am considering replacing the two 2-zone water timers with one 4-zone timer to rule them all--and a hose from the backyard to the front.
Just worry how the neighbor will escalate.
She called the neighbor with a complaint which nobody understood.
The city called Mom saying they went out, everything was fine, and they turned on the water, but it was off each time I have driven all of the way out.

Liberal woman has decided no plug in, too much hassle. She has a garage, and an outlet right where she parks. Too late, bought the regular hybrid already, but keeps talking about driving 30 km on battery alone haha

Well its is a hybrid. She can drive starting out electric all she wants. Battery gets low, engine starts automatically to recharge, but you can turn that off. I suspect of you can run out of fuel. First time she gets stuck and needs to pay for towing, the story will change, I guarantee.

RAV4 hybrid has an EV mode but IIRC it will still start the engine if you mash the gas pedal (even in EV mode), and it will start the engine when the battery gets below a certain point. EV mode is more like, a gentle nudge to widen the window where it keeps the engine off. The car is still idiot-proof. Toyota knows their market.

Were you unaware of that thread!?
Basically; if you want to cut friction and wear and stop worn old (piston/sleeve) engine smoke, there is nothing better/easier IMHO.
Sounds way too good to be true; which is why I tested...

My wife just bought a new 2026 Prius Plug In. We did our first EV test out of the box for her daily work commute. It is supposed to go up to 44 miles in EV mode only, we went 55miles in EV Mode on our first attempt. So far, I'm very impressed with this car. This was done keeping speed below 45 mph and no freeway. This will suit her normal driving just fine and is what I was hoping for.
They have a customer that has not even had the engine come on yet (over a year now) and is using his Prius as an EV only car. They do highly advise against it though mainly due to the crappy fuel today hurting the fuel system. So, what we are going to do is run a few tanks of premium fuel through it and every other month take it on the freeway to burn the fuel up.
