rear spoiler on crx
my 84 crx 1300 has a rear spoiler that is 5" wide. 1" high in the front, and 1.5" in the back. I don't believe this is stock, as it is glued on. will this hurt my mileage? and if so, how cam I remove it without ruining the paint?

Probably yes, and you probably can't. I have four ugly holes on the lid of my trunk from something similar.
|
He might be able to use those four ugly holes to mount a kammback style spoiler, which should help mileage.
|
Plug those holes.

I don't own a digital camera, or a cell phone, or know how to post a picture, so I would say no. the spoiler doesn't stick up very much, and it appears to be glued on. I might take it to a local body shop and see if it can be removed easily without ruining the paint. if not I guess I will live with it

I you can, then you might tape some bright yarn tufts to the top of it observe as you drive on as near a calm day as you're afforded and see what the behavior of the yarn looks like. And you might want to put some on the glass itself to watch. The direction in which they point would tell a lot about what the spoiler was doing. The slope of the CRXs hatch is a little 'fast' so the little up-kick back there might be helping. |
when I look in the rear mirror, I can see all of the spoiler. weather is pretty wet this week, but when it dries out, I will have to try the tape.
