tufts

There's some vortex drag but you've got full reattachment at the boot.
Notchbacks have the most complex aft-body flow.A real challenge to modding.
A look at the Dodge Charger Daytona thread will give you a sense of what Chrysler did for drag reduction on that car.

Great job with the camera. You got views from all the right areas and it was rock steady and clear.
The tufts were also just the right length as well.

I'm puzzled about what that the extention is supposed to accomplish though, since it is just a few inches longer than the stock fender.

Was this a box cavity test ?

Thanks for posting.

More confirmation

Nice work. A few of us now have tested this general Civic body type and have seen some similar things.

Here is a pic of tufts on my car, pasted in place by a light water mist that was on the car when I drove off:

Notice the recirculation zone near the base of the glass at the center that crosses onto the trunk. I think we see that in your #3 video too. And the pattern of evaporation of mist on my car in the below photo also suggests a recirculation zone in the same place:

Someone else on here has also recently made similar tests.

I think you have success displayed in these vids. Attached flow behind the rear wheels and probably better attached flow off the tail of the trunk with cleaner separation because of the extension, which I'm told is better.

I never saw until now that I mis-titled the thread '93 Civic instead of '03 civic. My fingers must've slipped?

I love how the car "changes shape" in the first video. (I know it's a combination of distortion from the window and the way the camera captures video. But it's still amusing!)
