Recumbent Honda 400

Some of you may have read my previous effort 'Recumbent Honda 90', I think I've gone as far as I can with that. It was originally a 'suck it and see' experiment which was a prelude to building a more serious tool.
As it turned out, it was far better in many respects than I had hoped.

On to the next project, which is now almost completed.

A collection of bits assembled into a rolling chassis, ready for sanding and painting.
Custom made fuel tank and airbox (not yet installed), rear subframe, steering linkage, fairing brackets and numerous other small parts plus an extended swingarm.

Fibreglass painted, ready for installation.

The bike is now road legal, and I can confirm it rides well, is very stable and very comfortable. Too early to tell yet, but because of the improved aero it should be economical.

Funny thing...nm.

What's the seat height on it?

Looks well done!

How do you do that fantastic glass work?

Frank Lee 06-10-2019 06:39 AM

Please do something about pic size. Thanks.

The original molds were made by John Bruce who is a legend in FF circles some twenty odd years ago. He built the first 'Coda', mine is No.2.

After much to-ing and fro-ing and delays from a local fibreglass expert, we eventually got the molds back and did it ourselves. I should have taken a lot more care when preparing for paint, but at the end of the day it's not a show bike, but a tool to be used.

Incidentally, John Bruce has recently acquired the original molds for Malcolm Newell's 'Quasar' and 'Phasar', so if anyone is looking to build one, you know who to call.

Hi Frank, got pi**ed off with photobucket, I'm using Imagr for the first time, guess I need to practice. Any tips would be appreciated.

I set pic size smaller right on the camera; can save many more pics in the memory and there is never any need for a barn-sized pic anyway.

Beautiful work. Subscribed and awaiting mpg numbers. Be sure to post US gallons mpg as well for all of us on this side of the pond.

The front looks strange from the side but pretty good from the front.

I'm interested to see your fuel consumption before and after.
