Hello from the mitten!!
Hey ya'll. Name's Tim. I'm from Michigan. I've got a pair of Taurus's (Taurii?). I know, not the ideal fuel economy platform, especially since they're both SHOs and one's got a V8. Figured I'd sign up here and pick up a few tips and tricks to salvage some of that mighty fine premium fuel I have to burn out their tailpipes every week or so.
So anyway....hi!

Well, my 95 SHO with a 3.2 swapped V6 and 5 speed averages around 26mpg, mixed city/highway, with several runs up to 7800rpm at WOT per tank (sorry...i'm a racer). My 98 with a 3.4 liter V8 and 4 speed auto with crappy ford transmission tuning averages 22-24mpg, also mixed, driven much the same way.
I'm sure if I steadied my driving out in my 95, 30mph wouldn't be out of the question. My 98, on the other hand, is gonna require some transmission work before I can get more out of it. Thanks to ford's crappy programming, there's a ton of slop to be dialed out of the transmission, not to mention getting the torque convertor to actually lock up.

Thanks. I'm actually ballparking that once I get my friggin alignment taken care of (bad ball joints causing some serious toe issues) and some decent tires on the beast, and get the 13 year old ignition system rejuvinated with a new coil pack and plug wires, I'm betting 30mpg of normal driving is not gonna be out of the question.
Of course, if i took the 40lbs of random, unneeded crap out of the back seat and trunk, I might get that now......
