I hope this isn't true... Account hack?
Sad about it whatever way. Wish you all the best no matter what. |
old mech?????
|
Looking into this. (Trying, anyway.)
It would be sad to see old mech go. |

Dang, I miss Cobb, even though he did some nasties like removing his posts with useful info about his PHEV kit. Sure hope Old Mech persists in enduring our follies...:thumbup: If not, I thank him for all the wisdom he has shared with us. Well, I thank him unconditionally anyway ;) |
I really, REALLY hope this is some sort of joke. Old Mech is an awesome guy, and I haven't seen him fighting with anyone? I would be a true loss to see him leave.
|
I appreciate the concern, emails, PMs etc. I need to get some things straight in my mind and my usefulness here is fading rapidly. It ends now, I have deleted the emails and PMs. I'm finished with forums for the present and near future. When I read about political crap on the Mirage forum and realized that in spite of almost 6000 total posts, few even understood how important some things were to me I decided it's just time to cut the cord, finish my projects and change course in life.
Some personal stuff combined with run away blood pressure and either the option of medication that makes me dizzy anytime I move quickly and my heart rate will not speed up until I feel like I'm going to pass out. Today on the Mirage forum I read about "if someone who is not a Democrat gets elected we go abck 50 years as far as emissions regulations " I remember watching on TV as Paul Ryan pushed your grandmother over a cliff and lost it. My response was deleted but the original post remains at this time. That's it for me, ya'll have a good life. This decision like the one last January 2015 when I quit smoking after 46 years, is NOT NEGOTIABLE. Save the sympathy for someone who needs it, I don't. To make sure that my request is taken seriously and executed expeditiously, I 'll come back and try to log in. If I succeed I will start deleting my posts here until there are none left. Spare me the energy effort and frustration on top of all the rest of the frustrations that have brought me to this point. It's just self preservation. |
Wishing you the best from here on out!
|
I wish you all the best. Thanks for letting us know, even though it is not what we hoped for. God speed and all.
|
Old Mech, this must be a misunderstanding: Nothing of yours was deleted on the Mirage forum in the thread you're referring to. (As an admin, I can see if any posts have been removed either by moderators or users themselves, and there's nothing out of place there.) I tried to nip the political commentary in the bud, and the OP has since removed (on his own) the comment you referred to.
But I see there are other circumstances influencing your decision to change course. So, I wish you the best. Thanks for your contribution over the years. (Also, I'm sorry we won't get to follow your trike project. If you ever reconsider, we'll be here.) |
As usual, I wish I understood people better.
|
I understand, i gave up video games several years ago when i realized they were being detrimental to my well-being. I lost touch with several online friends but it was something i needed to do.
|
See you around. It was fun chatting while it lasted. :(
|
This is a shame...
|
Old Mech, if you stop back to read anything here is my sincere thanks for your many positive and helpful posts. Best of luck with your new ventures and direction. I hope this move succeeds beyond your wildest dreams.
Good health to you, sir. I too have started with the blood pressure meds but fortunately it is going well for me. Cheers, skyking |
WOW this is a shocker and a truly sad day.
I'm not to sure what happen on this other forum but I hope you will reconsider leaving this forum??? I have the utmost respect for you and your wealth of knowledge. You have help me a ton on my project and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! Good health to you sir and your family. Sincerely Russell |
Opinions are a lot like a$$holes: everybody has one and most of them are just downright $hitty!
So to avoid stuff like this, I try my best to keep my feelings and political views from the internet, especially in a car forum. Sorry to see ya go Mech! |
I''ll miss you Mech but I get it. Internet forums can and frequently do get the better of folks. Sometimes the right option is to walk away.
|
I believe there were things going on in his private life to bring him to the brink and a straw here put him over the edge.
|
Sometimes a sabbatical is necessary, in order to step back and take stock of the important things in life. Take care, and look forward to seeing you again here.
|
Old mech,
I will miss the cleverness in you brief and succinct comments. You were truly a gentleman and an asset to this community. Be well Sir! Mark |
Will miss you Ole Mech... appreciated all the Civic specific advice (and more) over time. This is why I stay out of the Lounge almost entirely and never discuss politics here. Take care of yourself.
|
Sorry to see Old Mech leave. We had some spirited discussions about my project, but all good natured on my part and his. I understand his decision and wish him well.
Bill |
Whew, I thought it might have been something I said.
I didn't even know we have a Mirage forum. |
I actually still quite don't understand this decision, even though I suppose on some level I do. It's still a bit of a shock, a shame, and a loss. I have beer really participated in the Mirage side of things so I have no idea what went down there. But I wish you the best even if you never read this. It still hurts a little bit to not have you here.
|
Best of luck, OM. I reckon the admins will keep the light on for you, if you ever change your mind.

^ You betcha. I hope he returns some day.

That bridge is still smouldering.
Anyway I wish him the best. |
I understand what he feels. So often I read a post and see the politics in it and feel the need to respond. Sometimes without being able to hear the tone of someone's comments on the internet, dialog back and forth seems nastier then it otherwise might be in real life. Or maybe some people are nasty. Either way it can give you grief you don't need. The problem is once you have been around 1/2 a century or more you can see the politics in everything a mile away. Just coming off this especially nasty last year of it makes you want to just be done with it.

The best thing about this election cycle is just that it's over.
|
I am thankful that I was not involved in the recent elections, but far away as Australia is, we were bombarded by the daily garbage stream. My son is currently studying for a semester in Arizona and his stories of the media coverage and rallies is a real eye opener for me.
Here is to hoping that the president elect has a rush of sanity. Simon |
As for the election I would point out Scott Adams' blog from August 2015 onwards.
He correctly predicted Trump would win, when it was thought highly unlikely by almost anyone, and also explained why it would happen - and he was right with that too. It got tense when the Clinton team wised up and used the same technique, but too late. |
The thread is taking a Lounge-worthy bent; but I wasn't surprised because I'd followed Scott Adams and Stephan Molyneux right along.
During the Obama re-election I just read the transcripts of his speeches, because it was known he was hypnotizing whole rooms full of people. Then when it came to Trump, it became The Art of Persuasion. At least his speeches didn't have the weird NLP aspects Obama's did. |
If you want to talk politics, open a thread for it.
|
If you want to talk politics, there are plenty of other forums that welcome it.
Let's talk about vehicle efficiency. |
