reservoir-induced seismicity

I caught part of a program about the Zambezi River on PBS Television the other night.
During the 1950s, the Kariba Dam was constructed along the river, and a 150,000,000 acre-foot reservoir created.
And during the 5-years that it took to fill the lake, the weight of the water triggered 20-earthquakes.
I'd never heard of this.:p

Imagine what you could do with a mile or two of ice.

Yeah its a thing. I think it was first noticed in the late 1960s or early 1970s followed by everyone saying "that's crazy talk".

Why not. The other night PBS terra was talking about pumping sea water under a sinking venice to raise it above the tide level.
