reservoir-induced seismicity
I caught part of a program about the Zambezi River on PBS Television the other night.
During the 1950s, the Kariba Dam was constructed along the river, and a 150,000,000 acre-foot reservoir created. And during the 5-years that it took to fill the lake, the weight of the water triggered 20-earthquakes. I'd never heard of this.:p |
Imagine what you could do with a mile or two of ice.

Yeah its a thing. I think it was first noticed in the late 1960s or early 1970s followed by everyone saying "that's crazy talk".
|
Why not. The other night PBS terra was talking about pumping sea water under a sinking venice to raise it above the tide level.
