Revisiting the alternator to motor conversion

I came across this yesterday:
Endless-sphere.com • View topic - The One True Alter-motor

Apparently the GM e-assist alternator just has denser windings, 4 poles, and magnets between the "claws". This got me thinking, Denso alternators already have rectangular wiring and it seems that electric vehicle guys already have had some success with alternator conversions. With some permanent magnets sitting in the rotor, the field current can be reduced a bit under typical cruising too. The amperage rating of the alternator by far underestimates the power capability because the field current gets cut down to reduce output voltage to 14V, and the bearings on the alternator are already quite robust.

It seems that you could replicate the GM e-assist with a battery pack, AC motor controller, relay, some magnets, DC-DC converter for failsafe, and a supercharger belt or something since those get pretty big amounts of torque put through them. When braking or using electric assist, a relay cuts power to the 12V battery prompting the ECU to feed maximum power to the field coil.

Thoughts?

No one? GM's 15kW is just as good as Honda's IMA and it doesn't change the bellhousing. Isn't this promising?

Wow, you nailed your second post right to the minute days after your first!

Brucey did something like that and wasn't impressed.

I think the e needs to be paired with a woefully undersized ICE to realize fe benefits.

Then all that torque gets passed through the ICE' crank from the far end...
