Turtle 48mpg , 1987 subaru

seems all too likely for those if us that really acheive big mileage. 1781cc, 3 main bearings, boxer, etc. the facts are just too many to not get that kind of mileage as a bigger surprise.... and a tiny one barrel mode the size of my thumb. The sube went through a spell, the welding, paint, etc, it went way down into the high 20s. It bothered me. I found physics as the error, may babble it sometime.
This evening, on a 286 mile round trip, I used slightly less than 6 gallons. I left it underestimated at 47.66666666....
and on a not really legal note, but more for the amazing fact, we did an average 88mph with the howling thumpy rally tread until the first toll booth (about 110 miles). After thius toll booth, a nut with a hoinda and bictycles dangling off the back, passed us like we were sitting still...and we were at 80..I still think the old sube is snappin heads, pun intended. Lets hope it stays together for us..

original engine, no major repairs, the odom tonight is at 125,009 miles as I turned the key off.

Muhammed Ali was a three main boxer, and even he couldn't get 48 mpg at 88 mph .

Running a Subaru Loyale through the simulator yields 19mpg for an 85mph steady state cruise. Drop in a Carnot engine, and it's closer to 56mpg. Double check your speedo, and check for reverse fuel leaks.
