Robert Cumberford's boat tail

Recently,trained designer,Robert Cumberford,critiqued McLAREN's Speedtail in AUTOMOBILE Magazine.
In the article,Robert mentioned an urban car project he was involved in 40-or so years ago.
The car was 11-feet in length,with a Cd 0.203.
With a 6-foot tail,it was Cd 0.16.
Reminds me of the Morelli/Pinifarina CNR 'banana' car of 1976-1978.

The banana car would be this?

Very futuristic it was. Does not look nearly as odd now as it must have then.

Thought RC was long dead by now.

"Reminds of...."

From the cardesignnew link:
First seen Turin, 1978
Designers Alberto Morelli, Leonardo Fioravanti and Antonello Cogotti
Length 4,320mm [14.17323ft]
Width 1,675mm
Height 1,335mm
Wheelbase 2,555mm
Drag Cd 0.172

Doesn't sound like an exact match

So, 17ft for the lower Cd?

Yes.I think the long-tailed body without wheels was Cd 0.170,and they made bread slices, cutting the length down as Cumbeford did on his, finally reaching a 'production' length target, with only a slight drag increase,@ Cd0.171.
When they added wheels the drag shot up to 0.35,and they had to spend a lot of time with the cooling system, wheel areas and aspirated rear bumper,to get it down to Cd0.203.
It was amazing in 1978.

I was thinking of something from more than twenty years ago. Thought he was retirement age then, ha!

Take my word for it, twenty years isn't that long.
