Rubber ground skirt
I have noticed some of you are using lawn edging.
Many years ago, JC Whitney used to sell rubber ground skirt material specifically designed for the purpose, available in 4 and 6 inch widths. Does anyone know if and where this is available now? |
I can't help you with the rubber skirt material, but I'd like to strongly recommend coroplast. This morning I parked a little too close to a cement parking curb. The airdam bent and when I pulled back it took its original shape back. It really holds up well.

If you're set on using rubber, you can go here: Racing Rubber Lip and try using the lip for a 88-91 Civic, it's about the closest shape to your Geo.
EDIT: you can also look here: Sheet Rubber for ideas. I have emailed the owner of RubberRacingLip.com and invited him over to EM to offer his product to us as well as planted the idea of making rubber side skirts. Let's hope he makes it here. |
For those that like to DIY, you can also use the heavy duty rubber mudflaps that are used on Tractor Trailers. You can cut them to the exact height you need using the natural length of the mudflap. One mudflap should serve on complete side of our cars in two pieces, plus each one is around $2-$3 dollars.
Their heavy, so shipping may make them a bit expensive, but if you live in a large city there should be a truck stop or repair center that stocks them, they are required by DOT. |

Stiff plastic though |
TomO - Thanks for the links!
I was interested in that kind of thing too... but for side skirts as well as air dams... Would like something that holds its shape on the freeway, but can handle getting crunched by a speed bump... |
Check this out MX-5 Miata Forum - My Home Depot lips
Home Depot has some foam garage door seals that can be used for skirts, and they're flexible. There is also discussion in that thread about the Diamond Lok skirts. |
I use ripstop conveyor belting. It ain't cheap and a bear to work, but it is indestructible. You can get greedy on clearance because it is so tough.

Bump for ideas. I'm looking around for some rubber to work with for my air dam and side skirts.
