Rumors of eco-awesomeness

Okay, this is pretty awesome if it's true. Yesterday, our local news announced a deal for a new plant to open in the city I live in. Is this it? Man, I could easily see myself switching jobs to work there!

You build it and I will buy it :)

For those with limited time: This is about a Think! assembly plant in the U.S.

I have kept tabs on Th!nk for what seems like a long time, beginning with word of these invading Silicon Valley in CA., then word of assembly somewhere in Oregon. I read a Th!nk blog, and posted 4 Th!nk photos in the Th!nk pool after learning of a cash infusion on Electric A!D - A global network for electric car enthusiasts I became a Microcar fanatiic when I got the City-el, and Th!nk would be ideal. City-el seems to be avoiding the US.

Turns out that the company coming into this plant is neither Think nor Fisker. Instead, it is an entirely new company, V Vehicles. One of the backers is T Boone Pickens, which may mean a natural gas powered car.
To be honest, I'm not sure what to make of it. There isn't even a picture of a prototype.

They hired Mazda's former chief designer as well. Sounds interesting so far, but I have little faith. Too many people underestimate what it takes to build and, even more, sell a car. Too many try to translate success in other arenas to the car business and it just doesn't translate. The car business is probably the most complicated business there is. Too many think in terms of practicality or a "better" solution and that's only fine if you plan on selling a few cars, like I would like to do. People don't buy clothes for strict practicality very often either even though the investment in buying them is far less.

Seems like a "soap opera" atmosphere with back fence rumours flying! Similar to the song "Ant-i-ci-pa-tion" :D

My favourite vehicle is the EMC3 - three-wheel car designed in Washington but being made in China. If they stayed in the US I would volunteer to build that! Another one of those "coming soon!!" vehicles.
