runflat tires- good / bad?

I just had a set installed, I thought the stiffer sidewalls would help with economy but I'm not seeing anything positive, I'll see how this tank works out

They are heavier.

The pressure will still have to be high to firm up the tread. You also should have a TPMS installed as you might not notice if a tire is low or flat. It happened a friend of mine and his tire wore down to the ply underneath. He never noticed until i pointed it out to him.

ollie

I doubt you'll see any improvement -- like MadisonMPG said, they're a lot heavier than non-RFTs. (They also have a less comfortable ride, and generally are not as good in the handling department as non-RFTs.) I have them as well, and hate them -- going to change them for something else as soon as practical.

Ditto on the TPMS if you don't already have one -- because you won't be able to tell just by looking at them if they're flat!

Any material that is less bouncy than air, and is not needed to contain pressure or stabilize the tread is going to hurt efficiency. To find the fast bike tires, you just go to the high-pressure rack and squeeze the treads toward the bead, and buy the one that feels limp.
