Safety testing the BMW Clever concept vehicle

Great paper on some of the crash testing data of motorcycles, scooters etc and the BMW Clever concept vehicle itself.Pretty exciting, showing us all, that without resorting to expensive materials and manufacturing procedures[Clever used standard aluminum ret, tube welded],a light weight aerodynamic motorcycle or tilting vehicle can be constructed to be very crash worthy, despite being less then a meter wide.

This is a validation of what many have suspected for some time.

What do you think it validated? That when you wrap someone in a cage they pay less attention?

No, the idea is that a two or three wheel vehicle can be crashworthy, aerodynamic, and comfortable. People can be careless in any kind of vehicle. I always do my best to protect myself from other people's mistakes. These techniques can be applied to a Vetter Freedom Machine that keeps the open feel we enjoy on a bike. I am working on a time trial style bicycle using honeycomb aluminum and composite skin that is fast and crashworthy.

With a 3 point harness you would be more likely to stay in your seat during a impact and roll over.

Also i might wear a helmet in those little guys, especially that bmw..

Crash survivability study of leaning trike concept evolving since 2002. Heavily borrowed from the defunct Vandenbrink Carver leaning trike.

• CO2 – emissions approx. 50 – 60 g/km in
the European car driving cycle
I'd call that something of failure.
While it isn't much, it's also not that much better than my up! @ CNG (79 g/km), but the practical limitations of the CLEVER are huge.

On something designed for the city / suburbs: go electric , like the Twizzy
