Saw my first factory made EV today..

I've ridden by these Lexington MA parking meters, hundreds of times,
never saw a single EV re-charging.. Until today!
(That's the bicycle path behind the car).

Please forgive the camera phone.. :(

X, take a quick trip down to Natick. Sit in one at the show room. I did a few months ago. They were very nice and they have a real nice cut-away too.

Yeah! I wonder what kind of trade-in I could get for my Ford? :p

Hey, one never knows. I might win the lottery next week..

I saw my second Tesla Model S in the wild today! The first one was April 24th. I've been to the Natick Mall store and sat in the car, and had a good look at the chassis. They've sold a couple of dozen now, I think.

I've been seeing about 2-3 Leafs and about as many Volts per week lately, as well. There are even at least 3 Mitsubishi i MiEV's in the area, too.

Xringer 05-06-2013 10:21 PM

We've had the Prius C for a year now, and we are just starting to see other Cs in the area.
I think we might have seen about half dozen in past few months.
I get the feeling they aren't a big seller around here.

Got to take it in for inspection this month. Since these are so rare around here,
I hope the gas station goofs don't break it!

Altough I'm not a Tesla fanboy, I might recognize its design is nice.

NeilBlanchard 05-07-2013 09:05 AM

The Tesla Model S is the third pure EV to be sold in these parts, and they are the halo car for all EV's, in my opinion. As high performance and sexy and sleek as the Model S is - it is almost 2X as efficient as a Prius.

Love the license plate, with it's little green car with trailing green ac cord..

Massachusetts is a socialist state, where everything belongs to everybody.
So it's very common for people to 'share' lanes. Even when driving.

NeilBlanchard 05-07-2013 03:39 PM

The wide banded areas are buffers between the spaces, and since they have to back in, that is not so bad. Give 'em a little more time with their new car, and they should get better.

Rich, the parking is obviously not free (given the meters) but are the charging stations paid or free?

My wife said there were charge-card readers on each pole.. I didn't look too close at them..

These two are the only ones in the photos..

Here's a link to a pic (similar gizmo) you can clearly see the charge card unit..

At least for me, comparing a pure-electric to a parallel-hybrid is still like apples and oranges. If the Prius was at least a serial-hybrid with all-electric drive and the internal-combustion engine acting only as a genset, the comparison would be more fair.

No, that's the Roadster. The Model S is a 7-seat sedan (yuck!) for only about $50K

Xringer 05-08-2013 01:51 PM

When I saw this picture, Model S | Tesla Motors

It made me wonder, what's 5+2 Available Seating?

Wow! 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds? Sounds like a modern motorcycle..
256 miles per charge?

Ah, that's the Performance Model..

If I exclude the EV's I saw on display at the National Plug-In Day event in Huntsville, AL this past year, I have yet to see a BEV in the wild locally. We do have 3 Volt's running around my home town, one belonging to my sister.

I finally saw a Leaf in the wild while I was visiting my daughter in Plano, TX a couple of weeks ago. It was an Ocean Blue Leaf and I really like that color. While there, we went to the Dallas Earth Day Fair and they had a new Tesla Model S & Fisker Karma inside on display, roped off of course. Outside there was a privately owned Tesla Model S, a converted Golf {Warp 9, Soliton 1, Lithiums, etc} and a Leaf. I almost overdosed on EV joy! :D

NeilBlanchard 05-08-2013 02:06 PM

Yeah, the standard Model S is *such* a slug at 5.6s 0-60MPH.

The optional seats are rear facing rumble seats in the rear hatch - the occupants look out through the back window. Remember, the Model S has a "frunk" i.e. a front trunk, as well.

NeilBlanchard 08-12-2013 08:40 PM

I saw my first Honda Fit EV today! So, the only production EV's that I have not seen yet are the Spark EV and the Smart Electric Drive.

Smurf 08-13-2013 08:23 PM

Saw a dark gray Tesla S a couple weeks ago in La Crosse WI. Saw a red one in Minneapolis on Saturday night. Very sleek.

I like them purely because they don't LOOK like the typical electric vehicle. It shows that at least someone recognizes the need for realistic-sized EVs.

Xringer 08-30-2013 11:53 PM

Two more today new ones. Just after lunch we rode by on the bike path and saw a guy unhooking his new Smart Car.. And a Chevy Volt was still charging..
