Scangauge 1 - Some help please!
 

Hi I'm new to the forum and to hypermiling in general. just got my first scangauge and its awesome so far. i found a scangauge 1 for very cheap and so i had to get it, since it does BASICALLY everything the sg 2 does (without the addition of data logging which is not a problem for me).

now my questions are, my scangauge is version 2.26 (not the newest version of scangauge 1), is there any way to update it?

and the main reason for my asking, it only shows KPL (kilometers per litre). it does not show LHK (litres per 100km), which is what I'm most used to. Is there any way to do this, or trick the scangauge into doing this?

Unfortunately, there's no L/100 km display on the SG 1 or 2.

Ok I guess i'll have to get used to mpg then since its very easy to read changes, i really don't like KPL. thanks for the reply
im driving a 1996 ford escort LX (autotragic unofrtunately...for now). i was actually modding it for speed when i got it 2 years ago, but realized that it was going to go no where without funds for at least a turbo setup. So then lately with the gas prices i decided to do something thats actually very possible, get better mileage! im very competitive and going for horsepower in an escort lx without decent money is going no where, but going for mileage is very possible! haha sorry for the life story/wall of text, but there it is!

also, quick question instead of starting a new thread, what's with the 80-190mpg+ instant readings when i let off the gas? how does this affect my current/today average?

Going for efficiency can be just as involving/challenging as going for power/speed. You'll find quite a few of the members here have/had racing/tuning backgrounds.

I just sucked it up and started conversing in US MPG, too. If you want, you can use the calibration to make it read in MPG Imperial (20% offset on fuel used + your vehicle's actual calibration if needed).

The 80-190+ mpg you're seeing shows you what happens when the engine is at idle when your speed is still high. The SG doesn't have the ability to show deceleration fuel cut, which is likely a feature of your Escort, and in which case you should actually see infinite MPG when throttle-off. (The closest the SG gets to infinite is 9999 mpg - which you may see if you do any engine-off coasting).

the highest i've seen is about 190, never goes past that. definately doesnt go near 9999, but then again i haven't tried with the engine off and im not sure if i will for now.

i drive different cars everyday at my job and i got to drive a 2004ish 2.5 altima yesterday which has a built in mileage indicator (L/100km) and when i took my foot off the pedal it went to basically 0L/100km. so im guessing this wont affect my mpg TOO much?

You mean will it affect it as in skewing it from the "actual" mileage? No - you're not in DFCO mode long enough for it to have a significant impact over a tank of gas.
