ScanGauge calibration tips for TDI? Speed, distance, MPG all off.
 

Is there some option or way to get better readings for a TDI car? I haven't been able to get ballpark (±10mpg) for a tank yet, and been running the sg2 for about 8 months now, making adjustments to the fillup amount. Speed isn't accurate, miles not accurate, mpg/tank not accurate. I'm guessing it's because of the fuel/air ratio being so wonky with diesel but.....dang.

You have to calibrate the distance first. Mine is almost nuts on, -1% is my calibration. You have to set the fuel to DIESEL1. [Edit: DIESELa]

You have identified the key problem with Scangauge and diesels. It measures the air and attempts to infer fuel consumption, which is just wrong. But if you drive in a consistent manner, you should be able to get close on a tank by tank basis. My mileage only varies by about 1mpg between measured and SG calculated each tank.

You should only have to make 1 calibrated fuel adjustment when you notify the SG of the fillup. Just give it the amount of the fill, that is enough. If you maintain your driving style, it will reflect your mileage within its capability.

Edit: I checked my SG, set the engine size to 1.9l (of course), and fuel is DIESELa.

Wow. mine is at about 30% if i remember right (haven't driven it in a few days due to a bad wheel & tire and not being able to find a matching wheel to put a new tire on)

Will give these things a shot as soon as it's rolling again.

Looked at it today, I'm guessing you mean dieselA (i had it on B for whatever reason) I didn't look at what the % adjustment is. I am guessing you are talking about the thing i set at fillup where I adjust the quantity of fuel i put in versus what it expected, right?

How's this going? I bought a 2000 TDI Beetle in May. Looking at a Scan Gauge or a Torque Pro. Any advice?
