ScanGauge II speaker mount for 2001 Toyota Echo
8 Attachment(s)
Ive been thinking about a SG mount for a long time now. So I fabbed one up. If you worked straight through from start to finish it will probably take you an hour or so.
I could have just drilled 3 holes in the speaker cover but I dont have a spare cover. Its also reversible this way. I do plan to cover the surrounding hole with coroplast or something. This probably cost me $5 to make. What I used: Thin cardstock (for template) Thin sheet metal Metal snips Metal file (to smooth edges) Drill Screwdriver 2 Screws 3M Velcro I had it behind the steering wheel but its not a great place since the surface is curved. (It'll come off eventually in time) http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...p;d=1263850283 So I popped the speaker cover off. My echo didnt come with tweeters so its an empty space with 2 places for screws. I made a template out of cardstock, traced it to thin sheet metal, then cut a plate using metal snips. I then smoothed the edges and and screwed it down to the existing holes. http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...p;d=1263850283 http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...p;d=1263850283 http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...p;d=1263850283 http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...p;d=1263850283 3M heavy duty "velcro" works really well and I was able to run the cord down. (If you look through the windshield, it literally drops straight down to the OBD port) http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...p;d=1263850283 http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...p;d=1263850283 I like how close it is to the windshield. I keep my eyes on the road and even have a small amount of room to put up the sunshade. |
...sneaky cool!

im still thinking of ways to make the surround
any suggestions? |
Fiberglass is the only thing I can think of.
|
...how about that "home-improvement" foam in a can?
...make a mold (wax paper?), spray in the foam; let it harden, sand down, and cover with suitably colored cloth, tolex, or faux-naugahyde. ...for a tight fit, wrap the SGII (without cable) in wax paper and position in as you want within the mold. |
stay away from the foam in a can!!!! it's evil. fiberglass is the way to go. fairly easy, just time consuming.

Quote:
aluminum diamond plate Carbon fiber sheet (not fabric, 6"x6" chunk should do) fiberglass (fairly work intensive, for such a small piece) abs plastic sheet choroplast (if your really have to:( ) thin wood thin wood upholstered to name a few :D |
why dont you just cut a hole through the thing that was originally there enough for the bracket to fit? would look really oem. or pick one up from a junkyard and cut that up.
