Scangauge- worthy for diesel?

Till I found this amazing site , I didnt hear nothing about this tool. Now, I am very curious, reading other posts and stories about the benefits of Scangauge, how worthy is to have one for my Audi A4 , 1.9 TDi PD, 130 HP, 2003 year? What can I do with it, what can I observe with, what can I improve with, regarding hypemiling, things thta I cant do without such a tool? Does anyone knows a good one, even used , for a very good price? Thanks!

There are three really useful things SG can show you, Load, Water Temp and Intake Air temp. The rest is nice but less important. IMO it probably saves 5-10% vs driving 'blind'.

If you don't want to spend on a SG, if you have an Android phone you can download Torque and buy a $10 OBD Bluetooth dongle on eBay. Look in the instrumentation section for the thread on it.

With the scangauge on my TDI (2000 year, 1.9 TDI ALH, OBDII), I typically watch the instant FE, the average FE, the intake air temp, and the water temp.

The free version of Torque does not offer a diesel engine option for calculating the FE, but the paid version plus the OBD Bluetooth dongle is still cheaper than the scangauge (if you already have an Android smart phone)

From what I saw, the important things are load engine and throttle position, and for such things, which I dont have on my trip computer, I would like to have such a tool. If the SG or Torque Pro, doesnt work with my diesel engine, then I have to improve my hypermiling just observing my board computer!

I will try to put the Torque Pro on my phone; because the display is not too large, which are the important informations, from ECU, which I have to put on display, to be able to improve my driving habits? ( load engine or fuel consumption or throttle or.., and which are the optimal values, especially to load engine and throttle or other parameter to follow?). Thanks!

i have an Ultragauge on my TDI. 2 pages including water temp, instant mpg, avg mpg, throttle position, oil change miles, etc. there are 6 gauges per page, some repeat. $70.00 is what i paid. it's paid for itself and is now paying me.

Today I have made my first test with Torque Pro, following especially Throttle and Load Engine. I have tried to be around 70-80& with the throttle when I shifted( I realize that till now I didnt so at all), and I am not sure yet with the load engine how to do: usually I kept it around 40-60, sometimes higher, and this percents were realized in 5th gear around 1200-1400 rpm, and in 4th gear, around the same rpm. What do you advice me to improve in my manner of driving and what to follow in the future?
