ScanGuage II - Best dash location in your vehicle ?

I did a search on the forum and couldn't find a thread on this topic, so I thought it would be a great idea and reference for others if everyone would post pictures of where they've placed (and maybe even ingenious mods to integrate) their ScanGuage II or similar device on their car's dashboard.
Please ensure you state what car brand and year you have.

I used to have a '98 Chrysler/Dodge Intrepid and it had the best little empty shelf at the top of the dashboard, centrally located.

However on my 2013 Honda Fit I couldn't find any good location. Tried a couple different spots, one it kept falling-off due to surface not being flat enough, and the other was out of sight...out of mind.

If you just have it suction-cupped to the windshield...don't bother, as that's not on the dash. :rolleyes:

I put mine dead center up on top of the instrument cluster, in my straight-ahead line of sight. One of the gauges I keep a close eye on is instant fuel economy, and I don't want to frequenly to look down or to the side when driving.

And I stick it in place with velcro because you don't want to leave that on top of the dash on a hot day ... or in plain sight even if it's cool for that matter (thief bait). So I pull it off and drop it under the seat whenever I park.

Mine usually goes atop my steering column. Like Darin, I don't like mine to be too far out of my normal line of sight.

That's where I tried putting mine at first on the 2013 Honda Fit, but that part is very rounded and it didn't stay in place...

here is a thread called "mounting your scangauge" from 2011. about 3 pages long. Six different cars. 1 custom made fiberglass holder...worth the look!!!

this is optimal.imho,
1.) you don't want to have to look down.
2.) you want to look in the same direction as normal driving.
3.) the homemade shield reduced the glare from the windshield.

It may not look OEM but the dash top is the best place, followed by the top of the steering column. If you guys have 'Blu-Tack' that's used for sticking posters etc up, that will let you mount it to a curved surface and still be easily removable.

I've often thought covering the SG with a second dash top pod from a wreck would be the way to go. You could possibly also use something like a motorbike helmet, suitably cut down :)

I put mine there on both the Accord and the Tacoma. For the Accord I had to use a flat stretch strap with Velcro on the ends and wrap it all the way around the steering column and over the top of the SGII. Has been the way for about 4 years. Works great; looks not so great.

Yes, Velcro glue melts in Texas, too.

Another solution to the curved top dilemma would be to jigsaw a piece of timber to match the curve, paint it black, then use the velcro etc.

couple of possible problems:
1.the velco is the glue softens up with the heat of the sun on the dash during the summer time.
2. second, there is a sharp contrast to your eyes. your looking out your windshield (biright), then trying to adjust your eyes to the scangauge which is sitting at the line between bright windshield and dark dash.
your eyes take to long to adjust and will:
1. hinder your driving,
2. make you stop referring to the scangauge.

In the thread that I linked from 2011, I discuss the need to "shield" the scangauge. and also to keep it below the LINE between light and dark, not on the edge of it.
