I just searched for the elevation of Ahmedabad, and its 190ft, so thin air wasn't a factor.
These things interest me than most others. Curious what the CVR will reveal.

Saw a better (?) Cell phone photo today showing what appears to be deployed flaps, gear hanging down. Too many variables now for anything but speculation, but either engine problems or they over rotated are my personal favorites
We get that hot here in Reno so adding in the 4500 ft we are at, we still have a 787 arrive and depart for LAX not uncommon.

The same pilot that speculated about retracting flaps instead of gear has somewhat retracted that theory. He now believes both engines lost power, as someone reported a loud clunking sound that would be consistent with the RAT (Ram Air Turbine) being deployed. Apparently that is deployed automatically when all engines lose thrust. I wonder if that explains why the gear didn't retract?

I was trained to retract gear/flaps when climb rate stabilised at or above pattern altitude. Engine issues is my new current suspicion, Staying with fuel delivery issue, over rotated, maybe asked for etop, didn't get it, lost too much airspeed. Matress in fuel tank again?

I'd suspect fuel since both engines would have had to lose power and that is common to them... how'd they get full power to start the take-off though? Something about rotation would have had to introduce the issue that caused power to be cut.

Way more devious than I expected. I will stick to hubris, lack of clear space to set down, And an errant mattress.

Scott makes a good point that "leave 'em alone" requires one to also accept reconstituting nuclear warhead capability at a time they're most eager to use them.
