Seat Repairs on Early Metros

I've noticed from several of my friends cars that the early Metro seats just seem to kinda give up. I'm wondering about the type of seat construction and whether the seats can be repaired by auto upholstery shops. I repair possible? Do folks fit a better after market seat? Do the late model seats fit? Any help appreciated :)

Give up in terms of fabric?

The seats in the '92 that the ForkenSwift is made from seem OK, other than having terrible shape.

Fabric: I'd think they'd be repairable if the foam & springs are still OK. Though I'd also price a replacement seat from the junk yard.

FYI, I took apart my Firefly's driver's seat when I got it to put additional padding between the springs and foam on both the seat & back - for better thigh & lumbar support. I've done this to my past three cars, and the seats are vastly more comfortable for longer drives.
