Can I hook it up to another vehicle just to check codes and not mess with calibration on my main vehicle?

Absolutely, go for it.

The only thing you'll notice afterward is an asterisk "*" in your TANK MPG data, which the gauge displays to indicate it was removed from the vehicle since the tank data was last reset.
